The entire history of Armenian jazz from Armen Tutunjyan

"Jazz in Armenia," a book by Armen Tutunjyan, drummer and Yerevan State Conservatory professor, has come out recently: yet another treat for jazz lovers along with "The Anthology of Armenian Jazz." The author looks back at his own life, recalling meetings with interesting people, his first concerts and major events. This is the first ever publication dedicated to Armenian jazz, making it truly unique.

The book spans the entire 75-year-long history of pop and jazz music in Armenia and contains stories about more than 50 prominent Armenian musicians and brief biographies of some 70 performers as well as journalists and radio hosts who contributed to popularizing jazz in Armenia. There are separate chapters devoted to renowned foreign jazzmen of Armenian descent — Armen Donelian, Paul Motian, Georgy Garanyan, Sergei Manukyan, Kim Nazarian, Stephanie Nakasian and others. The book abounds in rare photographs, which make it look like a photo album.
